Essential Oil Precautions
Some safety precautions are required when using essential oils and do not use concentrated, undiluted essential oils on the skin. Use caution when using essential oils for the first time or trying a new one, and do a skin test to check for allergic reactions.
Do not use too high doses often. To achieve the curative effect, it needs a low dose and lasts for a period of time, so that the effect of conditioning the body function is appropriate. For normal use, the concentration should be 3-5%, and the more dangerous essential oils should be no more than 3%.
Do not use light-sensitive essential oils in places exposed to the sun. Some essential oils contain ingredients that can cause photosensitivity. If exposed to the sun after use, the skin will darken and even cause skin cancer. There are also different levels of photosensitivity, such as grapefruit, which can be used in low doses at night and exposed to the sun the next day. But like citrus essential oils, lemon, bergamot, orange, sweet orange, lime, angelica root, lemon verbena, coriander, etc., are all photosensitivity essential oils.
Oral administration must be prescribed by experts or manufacturers. Not all essential oils can be taken orally, and there are mixed good and bad essential oils in the market.
When there is a wound on the skin, the essential oil should be avoided on the wound, but if it is a small cut or small wound, the essential oil can be used to make the skin heal faster.
Do a skin test before use, adjust the concentration of 3% essential oil, use it on the armpit or chest, at least 24 hours after there is no allergic phenomenon, then use the essential oil.
Except for lavender and tea tree essential oils, which can be applied on a small area with a cotton swab, single essential oils must be diluted or formulated with base oils before they can be directly applied to the skin. Compound oils and base oils can be used directly.
Breastfeeding women should avoid breastfeeding within 6 hours of massage and bathing, because essential oils will participate in human blood circulation, and the essential oils are almost completely metabolized after 6 hours.
It is generally not recommended for women to use essential oils during menstruation, because more than 85% of essential oils have a menstrual effect, which may lead to increased blood volume during menstruation, and occasional bleeding.
